Dear Compass Friends,
One of the reasons we founded Compass Academy was to create, test, and model an early childhood education experience that could help raise a healthier generation. We are in a crisis of chronic disease, and we believe that where a child spends most of their time, or even any significant amount of time, should be a space intentionally designed to promote wellness.
Many of you may not know that before starting Compass Academy I worked extensively in the natural health field. I produced health conferences, collaborated with leading practitioners, and had the opportunity to learn from some of the most respected holistic health educators in the world.
My journey into this field was deeply personal. At age 11, I was diagnosed with systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, followed years later by chronic Lyme disease. After more than a decade of debilitating illness, I eventually found my way back to health through natural and holistic approaches. Today, I feel incredibly blessed to live a vibrant, symptom-free life.
Those experiences profoundly shaped my understanding of health, childhood, and the environments in which we grow and develop.
My hope is that future generations of children will never have to experience the suffering associated with autoimmune conditions, cancer, depression, and other chronic illnesses at the rates we see today. I believe we have an extraordinary opportunity to raise healthier children by being intentional about their nutrition, movement, emotional well-being, environmental exposures, and connection to the natural world.
This vision is at the heart of what we’re building at Compass Academy.
I draw on my experience with natural living and wellness to help shape our educational philosophy and daily practices, with the hope of giving our students a strong foundation for lifelong health and well-being.
Introducing One of Our Partners: Documenting Hope
One organization whose work aligns closely with this mission is Documenting Hope, founded by Beth Lambert.
Beth was a regular speaker and sponsor at the health conferences I produced years ago, and I’ve had the pleasure of following her work as she has built an impressive organization dedicated to understanding and addressing chronic health conditions in children.
Documenting Hope brings together practitioners, researchers, and families to explore the underlying factors that may contribute to childhood conditions, including autism, autoimmune disorders, and other complex chronic illnesses. Their work emphasizes a comprehensive, individualized approach to supporting children’s health.
Their annual conference is coming up soon, and I’m excited to share that they are offering virtual access to the presentations, so you can participate from home!
Even better, Documenting Hope has generously offered to donate a percentage of ticket sales made through our partnership to support Compass Academy’s fall fundraiser.
It’s a wonderful opportunity to deepen your understanding of holistic health while supporting our school.
LEARN MORE ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
Why I’m Excited About This Conference
Over the years, I’ve encountered my fair share of health washing—products, programs, and events that use the language of holistic wellness without offering much substance.
Documenting Hope stands apart because of its commitment to exploring the complexities of chronic illness, bringing together practitioners from different disciplines, and helping families better understand the many factors that influence health.
For anyone interested in a truly comprehensive approach to healing and vibrant health, I consider this organization an exceptional resource.
This year’s conference will explore a fascinating range of topics, including nervous system and brain health, the microbiome, immune function, nutrition, metabolism, environmental health, regenerative medicine, neuroplasticity, cellular health, and more.

The conference is especially valuable for parents who want to:
- Better understand the potential underlying factors contributing to their children’s symptoms.

At Compass Academy, we believe that education is about so much more than academics. It’s about nurturing the whole child—mind, body, and spirit—and creating the conditions in which children can truly thrive.
Thank you for being part of this vision and for supporting the work we’re doing together to raise a healthier generation.
With gratitude,
