We are so excited for this year’s new series of field trips! Each field trip is designed to enrich our learning themes at Compass. This fall we will study Virginia geography – and we live in the perfect place to see so many geological features of Virginia in person! For the older kids, we will also begin to talk about how Virginia geography and history interact.

For our first field trip, we will take a float down Virginia’s longest and most historically relevant river, the James! In the classroom, we will study Virginia maps, learn about rivers and how humans have used them to support towns and cities, explore the ecology of a river, and dabble with the history of the James River.

Future field trips to enrich our study of Virginia geography include Luray Caverns, Frontier Culture Museum and Monacan Heritage Museum.

DETAILS: Please purchase one ticket for each floater attending. All floaters must be 6 years or older (floating company insurance rules). Each floater under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult guardian. Bring water and a snack. We will have one big cooler to hold everyone’s water and snack.
