Farm Chef School with Zoe Donley and Robin Shirley

In this cooking class, kids will learn basic cooking skills while creating some classic and delicious farm favorites!

We’ll use ingredients straight from the Compass Academy garden, and Henley’s Orchard, including apples, peaches, eggs, beef, herbs and seasonal vegetables.

Kids will learn how to harvest basic herbs and vegetables from our kitchen garden and cook simple dishes from the harvest.

We will make these dishes together: roast chicken wings and vegetables, herb biscuits, chicken noodle soup, and apple cake.

We may also take a few field trips to other parts of the farm to watch apple cider pressing, apple picking and check out the cold apple and meat storage. 

Kids will get lots of practice with:

  • Planting, caring for and harvesting a basic herb garden
  • Reading a recipe and accurately measuring ingredients
  • Roasting, sautéing and baking
  • Knife safety and skills
