Honey Bees drift through the wildflower meadow, gathering sweetness from every bloom and delighting in the rich diversity around them. To us, this captures the spirit of the five- to seven-year-old beautifully — curious, capable, and ready to stretch their wings just a little wider.
At Compass Academy, our Honey Bees are gently guided through their transition into middle-childhood through thoughtfully designed hybrid learning experiences that support the potent social-emotional development happening at this age. This season of growth honors both freedom and focus. Learning remains dynamic and alive — a blend of table-top exploration and traveling, project-based adventures that move across our campus.
We preserve the magic of free play, while inviting deeper structure and collaboration. Games become more complex and strategic — like capture the flag — encouraging teamwork, resilience, and joyful competition. Our frequent wanders through the farm fields continue, but with new layers of inquiry woven in: What stories does the land tell? We notice erosion patterns, trace animal trails, study cloud formations, and observe the growth habits of trees. The landscape becomes both classroom and text.
Honey Bees also begin more formal — yet still delightfully engaging — mathematical exploration through Math Gnomes, where number sense is nurtured through hands-on discovery and playful challenge.
With growing confidence comes growing responsibility. Each child steps into weekly farm apprenticeships such as seedling caretaker, sweeper, librarian, or flock leader — learning that they are not just participants in our community, but essential contributors to it.
This is a season of sweet expansion — where wonder remains intact, and capability begins to bloom.
